Note from the Division Head: March 17
It was wonderful to see so many Middle School families at the auction last weekend. Thanks so much for all your support of our work with students.
Affinity & Allyship Groups in the Middle School
I want to highlight our affinity and allyship groups that meet bi-weekly in the Middle School, during Wednesday’s Advisory Block. Students currently have an option to attend Advisory or one of the spaces described below. These spaces are for students and our hope is that students will use the space in ways that they want and need.
If you have any questions about the spaces or would like more information about our affinity and allyship programs in the Middle School, please reach out to one of the facilitators listed below or Laura Todis, our Middle School Assistant Head.
Neurodiverse Student Affinity Group (NSAG),
facilitated by Steve Brennan
The Neurodiverse Student Affinity Group is open to any student who identifies as neurodivergent and their allies. NSAG gathers to celebrate the reality that brain differences are both normal and positive and to help make clear that being neurodivergent is not a problem that needs to be fixed. In this space brain differences are recognized and respected just like any other human variation.
NSAG provides a safe space for students to share their stories, to explore how their particular brain impacts their school experience, to express pride, to build community, to advocate, to honor and affirm every person present, and to just be together connecting with others with similar interests and experiences.
Student of Color Affinity Group (SOC),
facilitated by Lauren Davis
The SOC group is open to all students who identify as a student of color. All are welcome who can speak from the “I” perspective as a student of color (coming from a heritage or ethnicity that is not identified as European or white). The SOC affinity group provides a safe space for students to share their stories and experiences, to explore their identities, to express pride, to build community, to advocate, to honor and affirm every person present, and to just be together, while connecting with other people of similar interests, backgrounds, and experiences.
LGBTQIA+? and Allies Group,
facilitated by Chaplain Mel Robinson and Kathleen Hicks
The LGBTQIA+? and Allies group is open to all students who identify as LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual plus or questioning AND their allies. An ally is a person who does not identify as LGBTQIA+?, but supports, honors and advocates for those who do. In this affinity space, our hope is to create a safe space for students to share their stories and experiences, to explore their identities, to express pride, to build community, to advocate, to honor and affirm every person present, and to just be together.
