Jordan Fink '99 has founded a nonprofit called Build Soil. The organization has a few different projects, but the main focus is encouraging the planting of one million chestnut trees to create a community food supply in a way that helps alleviate agricultural pressure on grasslands. Jordan explains, "This last year we planted 10,000 chestnuts and have encouraged similar plantings around the country. We've been giving trees to neighbors and community members (OESians should consider getting a pair - they need to pollinate - or more)! We've also been working with a Native organizations to get chestnuts distributed to Native communities around Western Washington. There's a lot more to what we do and why we do it; I'm happy to answer any questions.
