Cynthia Doran's career spanned the transition from the all-girls St. Helen's Hall into the current Oregon Episcopal School. She started in 1965, teaching Upper School English, History, and Religion. At one point, she even taught Religion in the Beginning School. Cynthia eventually moved into college counseling, which continued until her retirement in 2009. Cynthia has been a regular attendee at OES alumni events, including SHH 50-year reunions in recent years where she has reconnected with the "girls" she taught back in the '60s.
1. What have you been up to since retirement?
I would say that most of my focus has been on playing with grandkids, traveling, hiking/biking, and reading - with a few house projects thrown in. The picture shown is from one of my 80th birthday celebrations. It’s with my adult grandchildren. (I have a younger “crop” in Dallas, Texas.)
2. What do you miss about OES, i.e., what was your favorite part of working at OES?
I miss my colleagues, the students, and the library.
3. What do you think OES does best?
OES does a great job of attempting to reach every student. I’ll always remember it as a place that saw value in everyone it served.
