Alex Ames '01 - OES Taught Me Curiosity

Alex Ames '01 attended OES for nine years before transferring to Jesuit. "I left OES to go to Jesuit because several of my friends were going, I was looking for something 'new' after nine years, and for the sports teams, frankly. Ironically, some of my closest friends in the entire world, to this day, came to OES for high school after I left!"

Alex now works as Director of Content & Creative Excellence at The Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta. He answered a few questions regarding how OES impacted his life.

What elements of your experience at OES did you take into your current career/project?

OES taught me curiosity and how to think differently, two principles I leverage daily as a creative professional. OES also taught me the value of collaboration, which is key when working in an organization as large as The Coca-Cola Company.

How would you say OES helped you get to where you are?

OES taught me to be a lifelong learner, which has been critical in a career covering multiple disciplines across multiple consumer segments at multiple large companies. Constantly learning (and reading anything and everything I can get my hands on) has kept my cultural/creative POV current, and helped sustain my career growth.

What's your favorite part about doing what you do?

The best part of my career is getting paid to make stuff with people I consider friends and constantly overcoming creative challenges together. Every project has its own set of challenges, but getting paid to think creatively and making sports content with people you enjoy for brands you love is a rare opportunity (going to March Madness as a sponsor is pretty good too!).
