John Egan ’75: Making a Difference in the Philippines
You are the founder of Blue Sky Education Projects. What is Blue Sky and what does it do?

Blue Sky Education Projects (BSEP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation dedicated to improving the learning environment of elementary schools. We primarily focus our work in the Philippines, where we support eight schools and one orphanage for girls, serving up to 3000 students. We have completed projects in Tanzania, Ghana, Vietnam, as well as in the United States.

Is there a project from Blue Sky that will always stand out to you?

Yes, the construction of a tilapia farm in Dauin, on the island of Negroes, Philippines. We normally construct or repair school structures. A project such as this one, that provides sustainable protein to the students and their families, is a joyous event.

Tell us about your experience at the class of '74 50th reunion at OES last year.

It was a very fun time to re-engage and share memories of that special time in our lives. Sara and the team did an outstanding job making this a momentous occasion.

The class of '75 is celebrating their 50th reunion this year! Are you looking forward to the reunion on May 31?

Yes, I have not seen many of them for nearly 50 years. I'm looking forward to reconnecting with my classmates, perhaps enjoying a dinner together and maybe a soccer game.

Is there anything you'd like to share about your time at OES?

The education I received at OES has enabled me to achieve many accomplishments leading to a fulfilling life. OES showed me the importance of giving back to the world community.
