Upper School students recently painted 17 murals of their own design at the future home of longtime community partner Neighborhood House on Barbur Boulevard. This was their final project of the Season of Commitment for the Upper School.
The students have been taking a class called Eating and Ethics and have been studying a wide variety of topics around food security in a global environment. One of the culminating projects was the mural installation. The students worked with the OES Art Department to draft their designs and paint them directly on the building exterior.
Neighborhood House is in the process of renovating a building at 8959 SW Barbur Boulevard for future expansion of their Free Food Market, Senior Center, and community meeting space. The windows and doors are boarded up for safety during construction, so the murals are a welcome addition. A spokesperson for Neighborhood House said, “We are grateful for OES students' murals that beautify the space for all our neighbors to enjoy during the renovation process.”
