It Was a Hot One: Seniors Take on Faculty in Basketball

The cherished seniors versus faculty/staff basketball game was held on a 90-degree Tuesday, uniting the Upper School near the end of a unique year.

“I think it will be an unforgettable experience for both the teachers and the students, one with lots of joy and fun competition,” student leader Annie H. ‘22 said. “It was one of the first times the community was able to come together in person since we went into lockdown last year. The atmosphere of excitement and laughter was really fun.”

As part of the annual Midwinter Madness student-led community engagement event, student leaders Kate B. ‘22 and Annie H. ‘22 changed the name of their event from Midwinter to Spring Madness and minimized the emphasis on financial donations to focus on building community.

Even though no score was kept, Kate B. '22 said. “Everyone was super happy and we were all able to safely gather around and watch [the game].”

Before Covid-19, students would play teachers and staff in a basketball game when students can donate funds to gain more points in the game, benefiting the community partner of the year. And while there was no score this year, and the game had to take place outside in heat, the Upper School community came together in a way that they haven't had a chance to yet this year.

“The games were a huge success,” Annie said. “After having so much be canceled this year and last, it was great to see the senior class participate in this iconic event.”

“I was glad this event was finally able to happen after a lot of planning,” Kate concluded. “I know a lot of the seniors were looking forward to it!”
