OES Aerospace Team Soars High at National Competition

OES Aerospace Team Soars High at National Competition

Congratulations to the OES Aerospace Team, who took 20th place among more than 900 teams from 45 states in the National Rocketry Challenge. Their success also secured an invitation to submit a proposal to NASA’s Student Launch initiative.

“The OES Aerospace Team demonstrated resilience, creativity, and unwavering determination,” said Head of Upper School Sarah Grenert-Funk. “They were resourceful, focused, calm, and took risks. Even in the most stressful moments, they stuck together as a team and supported each other, never losing their cool. We can’t wait to see what comes next for this team.”

Sponsored by the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA), the National Association of Rocketry, and more than 20 industry partners, the American Rocketry Challenge is the world’s largest student rocketry competition and the aerospace and defense industry’s flagship program designed to encourage students to pursue study and careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

Madoc P. ’25 shared, “Finishing in the top 20 nationally far exceeded our expectations for the year. We are a relatively new team and were planning on using this year to simply familiarize ourselves with our project, so we were super excited when we were announced as national finalists. We are very proud of this result, but also acknowledge that we have a lot of work to do in order to perfect our rocket and be even more competitive next year when we aim to win the whole competition!”
