Middle School Students Learn the Elements of Theater Production

The Middle School Scene Showcase, taught by Middle School theater teacher Lauren Cuellar, took place in 7th and 8th grade last week.

Students were given their scripts when they returned from winter break, and then rehearsals started.

The students learned about the memorization process, the technical design process, designed/found their own costumes, created a layout for their sets, chose music and sound effects, and blocked/staged their 10 minute scenes. Several students were interested in learning QLab, the light board system, and helped with programming and designing lighting.

Students had a tech rehearsal and a dress rehearsal to polish their performance. Each class had an audience of around 50 each day comprised of teachers, band, choir, and art students. Cuellar recorded the performances for parents to view.

The idea of the showcase is for students to learn the "Show Production" process in preparation for their end-of-year One Act Festival. All Middle School 7th and 8th grade classes will be producing a One Act Show to be performed in the evening for parents on May 15, 2023 (7th grade) and May 16, 2023 (8th grade). Stay tuned for details!
