Five OES seniors have been named National Merit finalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program. Drake B., Cooper H., Amrita J., Owen R., and Lila S. received the prestigious honor having been named semifinalists based on their junior year PSAT scores.
“First and foremost, I would like to thank my parents. Their support throughout my academic journey has been invaluable,” Cooper H. ‘21 said. “Additionally, I think the engaging teachers at OES, which I've learned from since sixth grade, are the ones who set me up to succeed on the PSAT, allowing me to become a finalist.”
Each year, approximately 16,000 United States high school seniors receive finalist honors. Finalists are considered for one of 7,500 Merit Scholarships.
“Being a National Merit semifinalist gave me some confidence when taking the actual SAT because I knew that I was prepared,” Amrita said.
The nationwide pool, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of competition.
“I’d like to thank my teachers and parents for helping me throughout my academic career,” Drake said.
