First-Ever OES Economics Team Wins State Tournament

Congratulations to state champions Ella L. ’26, Vector F. ’25, Irene W. ’25, and Shawn X. ’26. As members of the first-ever OES economics team, they competed in the Oregon Economics Challenge–David Ricardo Division (for non-AP students) and won.

“We are all enthusiastic about economics,” said Vector. “But Ella is the one who got us organized and encouraged us to compete,” Irene chimed in.

“I thought it would be fun to try,” said Ella.

They will be Oregon’s representatives at the national semifinals competition that will take place online over the next couple of weeks. The eight final teams will advance to an in-person competition in New York City.

The questions in the competition include both micro- and macroeconomics, as well as recent global affairs. “The questions not only test your theoretical knowledge, but also encourage you to think critically,” said Vector.
