Eighth Graders Engage in the Community

Eighth Graders Engage in the Community

By Chaplain Melissa Robinson

Recently, while half the 8th graders were in the deep dive days of their Inquiry 8 class (creating an artifact about their passion question), the other half of 8th grade was engaging in their community.

Depending on the student, kids spent time pulling invasive ivy from Bauman Woods (working with the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District); volunteering their time at Neighborhood House supporting their garden, writing thank you cards to their volunteers, and helping in their food pantry; serving at the Rebuilding Center painting over graffiti and preparing materials for reuse; and in our own woods and Fariss Garden working with Experiential Education Coordinator Tom Handel and All-School Community Engagement Coordinator Kristen Haferbecker.

We look forward to sharing more stories of community engagement from the Season of Action that launched last week.
