US Homecoming Volunteers

Job description: Volunteers assist with US specific homecoming activities in advance of the celebration and/or at the event by helping set-up, running the parade and fun-food booths (popcorn, etc.), and cleaning-up after the afternoon/early evening festivities.

Homecoming is an annual all-school celebration including soccer games, food and fun for all. Current families and alumni are all invited to attend. Dinner is provided by OES food service.

US Giving Season - Gift Wrapping

Job description: Gift wrapping of US Giving Season gifts.

Each Christmas the Upper School hangs gift tags on a giving tree. The names are members of in-need families at our sister school Whitford Middle School. Teachers select names from the tree and buy gifts, returning them unwrapped to the tree. Upper School parents wrap these gifts.

Aardvark Science Expo Volunteers

Job description: Supervise visitors during the Open House at the annual Aardvark Science Expo. The exhibits are open for public viewing, MS students will be interviewed in the morning, and teachers often bring their classrooms for a visit. Main responsibilities will be greeting visitors, helping folks locate bathrooms or drinking fountains, and reminding folks to behave and not touch the exhibits or toss tennis balls. It is also a nice opportunity to peruse the exhibits.

Aardvark Science Expo Judge

Job description: Judge Upper School science projects at the annual Aardvark Science Expo in a variety of disciplines. If you have science degree, work experience, or extensive knowledge in any of the scientific disciplines and your children are not attending upper school yet, please consider volunteering as a science fair judge. If you cannot judge, please consider asking your friends or colleagues to volunteer for our event. Breakfast and lunch provided.

The Aardvark Science Exposition is also known as the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair OES-Affiliated Science Research Competition. It is a science, engineering, computer science and math research competition for OES students in 9th to 12th grade. Students with their research poster boards are interviewed by judges and celebrated at the evening awards ceremony.

US Graduation Reception

Job description: Help set-up, serve, and replenish food at the catered reception following the US graduation ceremony. For 10th grade parents only.

US Graduation Party

Job description: 11th grade parents only. Plan and host the post-commencement party for graduating seniors.

The graduation committee, which is comprised of 11th grade parents, plans the senior graduation party after the evening commencement at Trinity Episcopalian Church. This is a wonderful party for the graduating Seniors who have been together for many years. A wonderful send off for Seniors heading off into many different directions and the beginning of the next exciting phase of their lives.

US Library Volunteers

Job description: Volunteers work under the supervision of the Upper School Librarians to carry out a variety of tasks, including cataloging, staffing the circulation desk, shelving books and assisting students.

US Parent Drivers

Time of year: November and May
Time of day: school hours

Location: meet at Upper School, drive off campus

Job description: November - Drive US dorm students to and/or from off-campus interviews for their Literary Journalism Projects. In May drivers take students to and/or from off-campus service projects on Mt Hood Climb Service Day.

Drivers must complete an OES driving certification class (which includes a DMV verification of your driving record) and have an approved background check by DHS. Driving certification classes are offered in late September and early October. Certification is good for 3 years.

US Teacher Treats

Time of year: 4 times, throughout the year
Time of day: treats are dropped off at the beginning of the day
Frequency: once per grade
Time commitment: ½ hour
Location: off-campus

Job description: Provide a treats for US teachers and staff as a token of appreciation. Each class hosts one day per year. Snacks may be store-bought or home-made. No nuts.

US Sports Team Parent - Please contact your child’s coach

Job description: Team parents assist coaches with communications and other organizational aspects of the team. Specific duties will depend upon needs of the each coach.

Fall sports include boys and girls soccer, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country.

Winter sports include boys and girls basketball, ski team.

Spring sports include boys and girls track, boys and girls lacrosse, boys and girls tennis, golf.
