Background Check

All volunteers will need to have a background check before they can begin volunteering. To get started, please contact the Upper School office to begin the DHS background check. Results from background check may require several weeks, so please begin the process early.

Do I need to get background checked?

Criminal background checks are required for most volunteers at OES. If you plan to volunteer only in a capacity that doesn’t involve contact with students, or if you are making an occasional supervised presentation, a check may not be required. Please contact one of the division offices for more information.

What do I need to do to volunteer in Upper School?

Anyone who has lived outside of Oregon in the last 5 years for more than 60 consecutive days will need to be fingerprinted. OES will provide DHS's letter of instructions to schedule a fingerprinting appointment off campus.

If I have been approved to volunteer in the one school, can I also volunteer in another school?

All volunteers, regardless of what division for which they volunteer, are required by DHS to complete a DHS background check.

How will I know when my background check has been approved?

All volunteers will receive an email from OES with an attached letter from DHS stating that their background check has been approved. Once approved, your name will be placed on an approved list available to division offices.
