A Conversation with Dr. Michael Thompson

For parents of Lower and Middle School children.

We are pleased to announce that the acclaimed psychologist Dr. Michael Thompson will be coming to OES on Thursday, November 13, for a series of conversations with parents, students, and faculty. Dr. Thompson is an international speaker, school consultant, and author of several books and articles on the subject of children, schools, and parenting. His presentation for parents will address the social lives of children in elementary and middle school.

Michael G. Thompson, PhD, has worked as a clinical psychologist, school consultant, and international speaker on the subjects of children, schools, and parenting for nearly 35 years. He has authored 10 books about a variety of social-emotional aspects of child development, including Raising Cain, Best Friends, Worst Enemies and Hopes and Fears.

A dedicated speaker and traveler, Michael Thompson has appeared on The Today Show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, ABC 20/20, CBS 60 Minutes, The Early Show and Good Morning America. He has been quoted in the New York Times, The Washington Post, Newsweek, Time and U.S. News and World Report and has been a guest on NPR’s “Morning Edition” with Susan Stamberg, “Talk of the Nation” with Ray Suarez and the Diane Rhem Show. He wrote, narrated and hosted a two-hour PBS documentary entitled “Raising Cain” that was broadcast nationally in 2006.

While at OES, Dr. Thompson will meet with all Middle School students about socialization and friendship and with Upper School students about the pressures of the late teenage, pre-college years. He will meet with the administrative team about leadership trends in independent schools and with all faculty about understanding the hopes and fears of parents whose children attend independent schools. He aims to share his insights and understand OES in preparation for his interactive meeting with parents.
