Upper School National Merit Semifinalists Named
We are proud to announce that six Aardvarks have become National Merit Semifinalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. Each year approximately 16,000 seniors receive this honor based on their junior year PSAT scores. The nationwide pool of semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state. Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of competition. Please join us in congratulating them on their achievements!

About the National Merit Scholarship Corporation Logo, from nationalmerit.org: NMSC's "Lamp of Learning" logo is modeled after an oil-burning lamp—a classic symbol of knowledge and wisdom. Education fuels the flame that burns from the lamp, which is shown resting on a base that represents the Book of Knowledge. The logo is symbolic of the enduring goals of NMSC's scholarship programs.
Last Friday and Saturday, the OES Middle School hosted the annual Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS) Student Leadership and Diversity Retreat.
This week at OES we paid homage to two very different yet linked holidays: Mardi Gras and Ash Wednesday.
OES continues to celebrate Black History Month. In a seventh grade English class, students are currently reading and discussing Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, the abolitionist's memoir.
On Wednesday night, people from many different parts of the OES community joined our Boarding families for a dual celebration: honoring both the Lunar New Year and Valentine's Day.
