OES Hosts Regional Sport Stacking Tournament
The OES main gym was a hub of both fun and focus last Saturday, when the World Sport Stacking Association's 2018 NW Regionals/Oregon State Sport Stacking Championships were held on our campus! A total of 70 stackers spanning a wide range of ages competed in an incredible variety of events under the broad umbrella of sport stacking. KGW-8 was on hand to document some of the action. Ten stackers from OES were in the mix, and showed off their skills honed through training received from Lower School Physical Education teacher (and Dorm Parent) Stephanie Rankin.
Here are the Lower and Middle School students who turned simple plastic cups into a blur of color that moved with great dexterity:
- Class of 2031: Jessica X.
- Class of 2030: Ben A., Grady H., Lucas M., Cora T., and Evie Y.
- Class of 2029: Owen O'B.
- Class of 2026: Maija L. and Sadie Y.
- Class of 2024: Maverick M. Special congratulations to Grady, Evie, Jessica, and Maija for taking home first place honors in various events!

"Thank you, Class of 2019, for being a class that inspires the future," Head of Upper School Asha Appel said of the graduating seniors.
"This is a group that is always changing, learning, and growing," Head of Middle School Ann Sulzer said about the Class of 2023. "It has really been an honor to see them grow into who they are becoming."
"This class embodies a wonderful combination of qualities," Head of Lower School David Lowell says. "Curiosity, joy, and the ability to know when there's important work to do."
The Class of 2019 spent some of their last days in school on a rafting trip in Central Oregon this week. They camped, hiked, played music, and spent quality time with each other to celebrate some of their last moments together as Upper Schoolers at OES.
