Middle Schoolers Make Math Count
From the desk of Ann von Ofenheim, OES Middle School math educator:
"On February 24, OES's Middle School Math Club competed in a regional MATHCOUNTS competition at Mentor Graphics.
The competition consisted of three official rounds and one game round. Two of the rounds tested each individual's math skills with and without use of a calculator, and then a team round gave students the opportunity to collaborate with each other to solve more challenging problems.
OES did well overall; Chris J. '22 qualified to go on to the state competition on March 17! Here are the three teams that competed:
*Official Team: Chris J. '22, Shriya D. '22, Jacob N. '23, and Arun S. '23.
*Seventh grade team: Maxwell T. and Alex C. (both '23).
*Sixth grade: Calvin C., Alexandre B., Yuankai G., and Sash R. (all '24).
Congratulations to the Math Club!"
"Thank you, Class of 2019, for being a class that inspires the future," Head of Upper School Asha Appel said of the graduating seniors.
"This is a group that is always changing, learning, and growing," Head of Middle School Ann Sulzer said about the Class of 2023. "It has really been an honor to see them grow into who they are becoming."
"This class embodies a wonderful combination of qualities," Head of Lower School David Lowell says. "Curiosity, joy, and the ability to know when there's important work to do."
The Class of 2019 spent some of their last days in school on a rafting trip in Central Oregon this week. They camped, hiked, played music, and spent quality time with each other to celebrate some of their last moments together as Upper Schoolers at OES.
