Stage and Screen Students Put A Spin on Horror

“Should they be eaten by the monster?”

This question, posed in all seriousness, came from Andrew C. ’19 as he and his fellow filmmakers discussed the plot of their movie project. As part of a Stage and Screen class, the students (hauntingly pictured above) have been tasked with making a three-minute horror or suspense film. The catch? None of it can be in English.

As educator Peter Buonincontro explained, “Each of them has to take a turn getting up and speaking at least one line in another language—Spanish, French, Mandarin, etc.”

The process of character development, considering the element of humor in horror and suspense films, and choosing appropriate settings for scenes are all important parts of translating ideas to the screen.
