A Concert for All Ages

Brian Balmages. O'Reilly & Williams. Mussorgsky. Dettori.

These names may not be familiar to most of us, but for OES musicians they've become like old friends. That's because they're just four of the many professionals who composed or arranged the pieces performed at our All-School Instrumental concert on Monday night.

A wonderful mix of smiles and seriousness permeated the performances. From joy expressed by the youngest musicians (like Jonah B. '26, pictured above) to masterful concentration on the parts of our seniors, the power and versatility of music shone through each piece. Among the 21 numbers were Alpha Beta Alpha, Dragon Dance, Galactic Episode, and The Five Note Blues.

The large audience gathered in the OES gym was treated to songs from nine different ensembles:
  • Lower School Intermediate Strings;
  • Lower School Band;
  • Sixth Grade Beginning Band;
  • Sixth Grade Advanced Instrumental Musical Ensemble;
  • Middle School Jazz Combo;
  • Seventh and Eighth Grade Combined Instrumental Ensembles;
  • Upper School Instrumental Ensemble; and
  • Advanced Strings
Thank you Ms. Teskey, Ms. Furtwangler, Mr. Hornick, and Mr. Eby for helping our students share their musical gifts!
