EC3 Design Center

"Our school philosophy matters: Grounded in the belief that the advancement of knowledge flows from open and rigorous inquiry, we cultivate the life of the mind and the whole person by connecting questions with exploration and discovery, theories with scrutiny, expression with art, and self with subject."From the OES Identity Statement

A creative and collaborative hub for the OES campus, EC3 provides the space for the community to explore and extend classroom experiences, develop innovative approaches, model continual learning, and bring inquiry to life. EC3 is rooted in a commitment to student demonstration and leadership, creativity, and applied understanding through the OES inquiry cycle:

  3. Commit

Lower School

Lower School students engage in EC3 through collaborative design processes, focusing on resource sharing, empathy building, and building commitment to the community through service.

Middle School

Middle School students engage in EC3 through their Middle School inquiry capstone project, ‘Project X,’ and by challenging themselves to create solutions to complex problems during their interdisciplinary design challenges in science, technology, and math classes.

Upper School

Upper School students engage in EC3 through several avenues! Many come to EC3 as a place to explore independent passions around screen printing, fashion design, and engineering. Students apply their classroom learning by building, making, recording, performing, programming - the list goes on! - in order to build deeper meaning and understanding.
