Updated November 16, 2009
Varun I. '10 and Ellie M. '11 represented OES at the state varsity cross country
meet at Lane Community College in Eugene.

We are officially one quarter of the way
through the 2009-10 school year. My, how time flies! The
faculty took the first weekend of November to write student comments on
this first quarter of work and we will be sending these out first thing
the week of November 16. As we make the transition to the new
database system that you can now access through the Parent Portal, we
will send comments home via snail mail and post them online. Our
hope is that we can use the portal system from here on and I welcome
your feedback about accessing your child’s narrative reports
online. For you data hounds out there, I thought you might find
it interesting that this quarter the faculty and coaches wrote in
excess of 1800 individual comments for students. I find that
pretty amazing!
We look forward to following up the written
comments with student-parent-teacher conferences for all new students,
including all ninth graders, and all seniors. I strongly
encourage you to bring your child to conferences so that everyone can
participate in the conversation and maximize the benefit of this
half-hour together.
This fall, the faculty has been engaged in a review of our Timeback
consequence. In early November we finalized changes to this
system. I am working towards a detailed communication to students
and parents about these changes and hope to have it out before
conferences and Thanksgiving vacation. Stay tuned . . .
Unfortunately, the H1N1 vaccination clinic
that OES was planning to host with Washington County has been cancelled
due to the continued shortages in the supply of vaccine. We are
hopeful that the County will re-schedule the clinics if the supply of
vaccine increases.
I wish everyone a happy and well-deserved Thanksgiving Vacation!

Join us in this important and joyful service to our local community...
It’s almost time for
the Giving Tree! Watch for information in the Middle and Upper Schools,
where students coordinate sponsorship of 25 families (over 120
individuals) from Vose Elementary for whom the OES community collects
gifts of clothing and food at the holidays. Vose carries out this
venture as an outreach to their families that especially need this
service, and relies on the participation of a number of community
agencies to help that happen. OES is honored to be part of this effort.
Gift tags will be on
display in the Great Hall for US families to pick up during parent
conferences, November 20, 23, and 24. Students can also pick up tags
from the Giving Tree during school between November 20 and December 7.
Gift items must be placed under the Giving Tree, not wrapped,
and with gift tag securely attached, no later than Tuesday, December 8.
Each sponsored Vose family will receive socks, shirts or sweaters,
pants or jeans and a gift item. Pick the items that you would most like
to give!
