2010 US Summer Reading
OES's Upper School Summer Reading has two parts:
- The Upper School Summer Reading Program: All students must choose and read at least one book from a list of titles generated by rising seniors (members of the Class of 2011) and faculty and staff members. Students will meet in the fall in book groups to discuss their chosen book. There are separate lists for incoming 9th-graders and rising 10th-, 11th-, and 12th-graders. Please see links at right for the lists.
- The Summer Reading Challenge: OES challenges each student to read at least 2,010 pages over the summer, or 10 titles new to her or him, or for 30 hours cumulatively. This is entirely voluntary, and a student who wishes to participate should select the challenge (number of pages, number of books, or number of hours reading) that best matches her or his reading style. Students who successfully complete the challenge and document their reading will receive a custom-designed summer reading T-shirt featuring the "Feast of Words" logo (at right) designed by Kate Kahl '11. Students may record their reading in whatever format works well for them, or they may use the official recording form.
Special thanks to Friends of the OES Libraries (FOESL) for their generous and enthusiastic support of summer reading!
