Get creative in the kitchen by joing this fun class! Learn to make cupcakes and cookies from scratch and then to turn them into works of art. We'll spend the week exploring basic baking skills, as well as getting an introduction to frosting and piping with buttercream. Learn to make flowers, animals, balloons, and more using a pastry bag. Best of all, you will have treats to take home!

Baking for Fun

Everyone loves cake and cookies, but if you would like to learn how to make even more baked goods like scones, tarts, pies, and cinnamon rolls, this is the class for you! Students will follow recipes to bake their own treats and take them home to share. Create a recipe book and learn ways to increase nutritional content in baked goods.

Berry Bonanza

Summertime is berry time in Oregon, and we'll be cooking up some berry good food. We'll start the week with a trip to a berry farm to pick our own berries. Kitchen activities the rest of the week include: jam making, berries and chocolate fondue, baking cookies, tarts, and more! Basic kitchen safety and food preparation skills will be emphasized in this hands-on cooking class.

Cake Sculpting and Decorating

For fans of programs like “Cake Boss” and “Ace of Cakes” who always wanted to try fondant, this class is a hands-on introduction to creating delicious cake masterpieces. Students will work together to make elaborately decorated cakes and cupcakes, learning how to sculpt figures, make edible flowers, make their own fondant, and use their creativity to produce their own designs. Each student will have cake to take home and share.

Candy Making

Want to learn more about how delicious confections like chocolate truffles, marshmallows, fudge, caramels, and Turkish delight are made? Explore the unique cooking styles used to make candy as we learn about the history of each sweet treat. You not only get to make it and taste it, but you also get to take candy home to share.

Chocolate Creations

Come explore the world of chocolate. Enjoy a chocolate tasting and experience the difference between milk, dark, and white chocolate. From bean to bar, students will learn about the origins and history of chocolate. Students will build a recipe book that includes cocoa, cakes, pudding and more. Make your own truffles, build your own candy bars, and enjoy chocolate-dipped marshmallows. This class is delicious and informative!

Cookies for Kids

Is your child’s favorite character on Sesame Street the Cookie Monster?  Does your child sometimes try to sneak a sweet treat before dinner? Or, do you think your child might be an aspiring baker in waiting? If so, this might be the course for them. In “Cookies for Kids,” your child will learn the basics of preparing cookies. The course will teach the importance of reading directions, measuring ingredients, keeping track of baking times, and the basics of creating delicious treats. Once the cookies are complete, students will have fun decorating the cookies. Oh yeah …o ne more thing … they get to eat their yummy creations as well.

Cooking Around the World

Take a trip around the world with your taste buds! Learn about different cultures as we cook the foods and read about countries around the world. Students will make their own chef’s apron, create a recipe book, and learn basic cooking and kitchen safety skills. Be prepared to make delicious dishes and taste something new. Students can take Culinary Cooking and this class and make all different foods.

Culinary Accidents

What do a batch of brownies, chocolate chip cookies, and potstickers all have in common? They are culinary accidents! A kitchen catastrophy turned wonderful! In this class we will unearth the mystery behind some of our favorite foods. We will explore their history and taste the mistakes.  Students will practice reading andl math skills while working as a team and cooking from scratch.

Culinary Arts: Around the World

Smell that? Those incredible scents wafting from the OES kitchen? It’s the Cooking Around the World camp. Some people go to Le Courdon Bleu. Some cook their way through a Julia Child's cookbook. Kids who know better attend Mrs. Mounsey’s school of the culinary arts. Learn to make delectable delights from around the globe, from traditional Haitian and Creole pralines and beignets, to tangy Mexican salsa, fresh guacamole, and homemade tortilla chips. Wow diners with Chinese spring rolls and English sticky-toffee pudding and custard. We’ll make them all, and at the end of the camp each chef will take home a cookbook filled with all of his or her ethnic creations. Put your chef’s hat on, bring your imagination, and let’s get cooking!

Decoration Creations

Want to wow your family and friends? Learn to make desserts that will do that! Create baked goods and unique treats that will taste delicious. Wait, we will go further and make them beautiful as well. Make amazing decorations using fondant. Create with buttercream and chocolate as well. Make your own decorated cake pops and more!

Fairy Tale Foods

Experience the tasty land of make believe! No need to pack a snack for this journey because here the students do the cooking!  We will make gingerbread men and see if they run. We will have a porridge tasting, courtesy of The Three Bears, and make curds and whey like Little Miss Muffett. Each class involves a different fairy tale, fable or nursery rhyme.  Students will increase their practical math and reading skills while working and problem-solving in a team. This class promises to be fun and delicious!

Food Network

Caley Peterson
Join this kids' cooking show! Plan the recipes and cooking experiences, then film the process from start to finish. You create the show and take home the final copy. Make numerous recipes each day and eat your projects! This will be the newest hit on TV!

    $75 per week (Week 3 is $60); $18 daily
    Hourly for part-time usage is $7.50
  • Lunch is required if staying after noon. It includes supervision (12-1) and a nutritious lunch. Children will be escorted back and forth from camps.
