MS Scientists Meet Peers at I-SWEEEP

Four OES Middle School students joined more than 1,000 young scientists from 70 countries and 40 U.S. states to present their science projects at I-SWEEEP, the International Sustainable World (Energy, Engineering, and Environment) Project Olympiad competition April 14-18 in Houston, Texas. Vinay I. ’14 and Ajay K. ’14 won a Silver Medal and $300 in the Junior Energy category for their project, “From Waste to Energy: Maximizing Heterotrophic Algal Growth for Biofuels.”

Andrea B. ’14 won a Silver Medal and $300 in the Junior Environment category for her project, “Measuring Mercury Concentration in Environmental Samples Around the Ash Grove Plant.” Karina H. ’15 won a Bronze Medal and $200 in the Junior Engineering category for her project, “Sterilizing Intra-venous Injection Port Systems with 70% Isopropyl Alcohol Wipes: A Matter of Life and Death.” Congratulations Vinay, Ajay, Andrea, and Karina!
