Head Search Committee Update - September 3
In preparation for the visits of our Head of School candidates later this month, we are making their cover letters, résumés and personal statements available to OES community members on line. To access the site, please refer to the username and password sent to your primary family email.

The Head Search Committee selected three finalists for consideration as the next Head of School. The candidates are Monique DeVane, Mo Copeland, and Greg Foster (presented in order of scheduled visits).
Monique DeVane currently serves as the Associate Head at Hawken School, a PK-12 school with 950 students near Cleveland, OH. She previously worked at Shady Hill School (Cambridge, MA); The Thacher School (Ojai, CA); Northfield Mount Hermon School (Northfield, MA); and Brown University (Providence, RI). She also serves as a current trustee for The Thacher School. Her multi-day visit to OES will begin on Sunday, September 19.
Mo Copeland currently serves as the Head of School at St. George’s School, a K-12 school with 390 students outside of Spokane, WA. She previously worked at Lakeside School (Seattle, WA); Moses Brown School (Providence, RI); Putney School (Putney, VT); and the Stanford Linear Accelerator (Palo Alto, CA). Her multi-day visit to OES will begin on Wednesday, September 22.
Greg Foster currently serves as Head of School at St. Johns Country Day School, a PK-12 with 680 students in Orange Park, FL. He previously worked at Alexander Dawson School (Lafayette, CO); Punahou School (Honolulu, HI); and Stevenson School (Pebble Beach, CA). His multi-day visit to OES will begin on Sunday, September 26.
Each candidate will be scheduled to meet with the four input groups, members of the administrative team, faculty (in divisional forums), parents (in open forum), Upper School students, the Board of Trustees and the Head Search Committee. We are finalizing detailed schedules for all three candidates and will make them available closer to their visits. We look forward to providing you with further updates as this process continues.
Previous Updates
The Head Search Committee held its first meeting on June 2. Bob Fricker and Charlotte Rae of Educational Directions shared their initial impressions of the school and its community and gave important advice and guidance for the work ahead. They also held forums for parents, faculty and administration.
At the beginning of August the head search consultants presented the committee with 40-plus résumés of multi-year educators and administrators interested in becoming our next Head of School. It was a strong and impressive pool of candidates. As previously reported, the committee met on August 6, and whittled the list down to a group of seven. The committee interviewed these seven candidates at OES the weekend of August 21/22. After careful consideration the committee narrowed the list down to a final group of three — two current heads and one associate head of school, who have worked in education for between 27 to 37 years.
Next Steps: Anticipated Timeline
- Mid to late September: small group of finalist candidates invited to interview at OES.

OES Head Search Committee Membership
We have worked to ensure that each important constituency of the OES community is represented on the Search Committee, and we are grateful to our fellow committee members for their commitment, investment of time, and expertise as we work to identify and hire our next Head of School. As you will notice, many committee members wear multiple hats, such as: parent, alum, and/or church member. The members possess unique knowledge of the school’s experiences, programs and divisions, bring diverse experience and perspectives, and have been members of the school community for varying lengths of time.
