| The OES Middle School After School Program is designed to provide students with a safe and healthy place to do homework, socialize with friends, and take part in organized activities. The philosophy of the program echoes that of the Middle School. We strive to supply a balance of physical, intellectual, and emotional support for students, along with fostering responsible choice making. The staff includes experienced educators who work together to get to know each student and connect with them in this very important time of the day.
The program is in session from the time school is dismissed until 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, beginning on the first full day of school and excluding days when regular classes are not in session The cost is $6.80/hr for drop-in or $2,502/yr for full-time participation. There is a one-hour minimum charge. We would appreciate it if everyone picked up their child by 6:00 p.m.
Initial daily check-in takes place in the Middle School Commons immediately after dismissal. The program, however, makes use of many other areas of the school including the library, study rooms, the covered basketball court in back, as well as other locations on campus.
Our first priority is the safety and well-being of your child. Please make sure that you, or your authorized pick-up person(s), inform After School Program staff that you are taking your child. If you ask your child to meet you outside, please tell them they must inform staff they are waiting outside. If your child signs himself or herself out, he or she must then let one of the after school staff know that they are leaving. If your child is to be picked up by someone not listed on your program registration form, please call to notify staff of the change at 503-416-9299.
All Middle School students and 5th graders are required to be picked up by 3:15 p.m. unless they are enrolled in the After School Program or participating in OES sanctioned sports or activities occurring immediately after dismissal. Students not picked up by 3:15 p.m., and not participating in an OES sanctioned activities after school, will be checked into the After School Program. Drop-in care is available before and after sporting events between 2:45–6:00 p.m.
The After School Program maintains and follows the same policies and procedures regarding health and safety as the Middle School and in accordance with state regulations.
All students are offered nutritious snacks and beverages during the program at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. If your child has special dietary needs, please discuss this with the staff and we will make every effort to make accommodations.
Registration forms for full-time and drop-in use for the following school year are sent out in the spring. You may, however, enroll your child at any point in the year. Please notify staff as soon as possible if you are planning to use the drop-in program.
If your child is a full-time participant in the program, you have the choice of payment plans: one time in the beginning of the year or monthly. Monthly billing is included on your tuition statement and payable by the first of each month September through June. There is a late fee of 1.5% for payments received after the 1st of the month.
Drop-in participants are billed at $6.80/hr. There is a one-hour minimum, after which the charge is calculated to the nearest quarter hour. Charges will appear on the following month’s statement from the business office.
