Physical development encompasses body awareness,
gross-motor development, fine-motor development, and physical
health. Our goal is to have children develop attitudes, knowledge,
skills, and behaviors related to maintaining, respecting, and
protecting their bodies.
Children have many opportunities to gain confidence in using
their bodies. They engage in a variety of activities to develop
large muscles, such as running, jumping, and balancing. Daily
use of Aardvark Fun Park and the Beginning School covered play
area allow children to develop their large muscles. In movement
classes with the Physical Education specialist, they work on flexibility,
agility, endurance, and strengthening muscles, as well as developing
fundamental motor skills such as throwing, catching, hopping,
jumping, kicking, and running. Children develop an awareness of
the location of their own body parts, how to keep fit, and how
to apply health and safety knowledge in making choices in daily
life.
Children develop small muscle skills through various play activities
and materials, including cutting, pasting, writing, drawing, puzzles,
pegboards, and geoboards. |
