Physical education specialists work with all the children from Pre-Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. In addition to the benefits of physical fitness and skill development, physical education also enhances a student’s creative instincts and self-esteem, fosters social skills, and sharpens the ability to concentrate.
Physical education classes at the First and Second Grade levels focus on helping children move with ease and include exercises for balance, agility, and flexibility. Games are introduced which accustom the children to playing and working on a team. Students practice skills using intriguing equipment such as peacock feathers, ribbon streamers, scooter boards, hoops, and a giant parachute.
In the Third through Fifth Grades, emphasis is on fitness activities, knowledge of games, skill development in games and ball handling, good sportsmanship, and rhythm and dance activities. The children also work on team and individual sport skills.
