The Lower School Counselor works closely with students (Pre-K through Fifth), teachers, and parents to foster academic, social, and emotional development. Through regular classroom visits the counselor works with students on basic life skills, such as self-knowledge, respect and responsibility for self and others, critical thinking and problem-solving, conflict resolution, communication skills, developing and sustaining friendships, and self-care. The curriculum is presented with developmental consideration at each grade level.
The counselor also provides support to students through individual and group sessions in identified areas of concern. Through consultation with teachers and parents, the counselor and faculty work as a team to achieve the highest potential of each student. This may include parent/counselor meetings, parent education, and community outsourcing for counseling referrals and assessments. All counseling discussions are held confidential.
