There are many fossil remains. Some are animals. . Some are plants. In the Clarno Unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument one finds leaf fossils in many locations, 3 dimensional nut fossils (of of three locations in the world for these), small mammal fossils, and in the mammal quarry fossils of large animals (show the pic of the kid with the femur). The land layers are traceable back to about 50 million years ago, too recent for dinosaurs which became extinct about 65 million years ago, but old enough to have many interesting species.
