All Volunteer Opportunities

Listed below are all the volunteer opportunities at the school. They are grouped by division, then ordered by date. All School are opportunities open to anyone, in any division. Please remember that all volunteers are required to have an OES background check; for further information see Background Check FAQ.

Lower School

LS Back to School Picnic -- Sign-up -- Learn More

Parent volunteers help staff the sign-in table and supervise the inflatables at this Lower School picnic the 3rd Friday of the school year.

LS Homecoming Volunteers -- Sign-up -- Learn More

Volunteers assist with LS homecoming activities and the school-wide celebration by helping set-up, running the parade and fun-food booths, and cleaning-up after the afternoon/early evening festivities.

LS Library Volunteers -- Email -- Learn More

Volunteers, in collaboration with the LS Librarian and Library assistant, help with special literacy events including author visits, the writing celebration, and Oregon Battle of the Books. Additionally, volunteers are needed to help with the shelving of books and other materials.

LS Used Uniforms -- Sign-up -- Learn More

Volunteers help fold, and sort donated uniforms resold in the Used Uniform Closet as well as stock and maintain the Closet.  They also wash Lost and Found items.

LS Teacher Appreciation Snacks -- Sign-up -- Learn More

Volunteers provide snacks for teachers at faculty/staff meetings and Lower School conference days.

LS Walk for Fun -- Sign-up -- Learn More

Volunteers supervise the track, record miles on lap cards as students’ complete laps and cheer students’ progress.

LS Spooktacular -- Sign-up -- Learn More

Help with set-up of activities and decorations the day before and day of the event, and help with clean-up immediately following the event.  Sign-ups for game staffing will be through classroom Scheduled activities.

LS Service Learning -- Sign-up coming in November -- Learn More

Volunteers assist in a variety of capacities with Service Learning projects involving all grades, including Giving Chapel and the Mt. Hood Climb Service Day. Specific classroom or grade-level service learning project sign-ups are found on the classroom scheduled activities sign-up.

Judge Upper and Middle School science projects at annual Aardvark Science Expo in a variety of disciplines.

LS Parent/Daughter Dance -- Sign-up coming in January -- Learn More

Volunteers supervise set-up, serve refreshments and clean-up after the event.

LS Teacher Appreciation Day -- Sign-up coming in March -- Learn More

Volunteers help with the preparation and activities for Lower School Teacher Appreciation Day.

LS Discovery Day Workshop Leader -- Email -- Learn More

Workshop leaders prepare and lead 2 1-hour workshops for Primary through 2nd grade in various interests or expertise.  Workshop size varies from 4 to 10 students.

LS Discovery Day Event Volunteer -- Sign-up coming in April -- Learn More

General volunteers assist workshop leaders and help gather the children and take them to and from workshops.

Perform a variety of jobs in and around the classroom including helping with science, class parties, class projects, production, etc. Jobs can be for specific shifts (scheduled) or less time specific activities (projects).

Middle School

Help distribute locks and assist students with questions on using instrument locker locks.

MS Sports Team Parent -- Contact your child's coach -- Learn More

Assist coaches with communications and other organizational aspects of the team.

MS Sports Helper -- Please contact your team parent -- Learn More

Assist with various tasks needed by the coach and/or team parent.  Due to the number of teams fielded each season it is not possible for OES to fully staff each game/competition.  Parent help is critical to running each event.

MS Library Volunteers -- Sign-up -- Learn More

Volunteers work under the supervision of the Middle School library staff to process books, shelve books, "read"/cleanup shelves, and set-up book displays.

PAL Meeting Minutes Scribe -- Sign-up -- Learn More

Take minutes during the monthly MS PAL meetings.

MS DEAR Baking -- Sign-up -- Learn More

Volunteers bake cookies for students in support of the Drop Everything And Read in-school reading for fun program.

Volunteers assist with MS specific activities and the school-wide homecoming celebration by helping set-up, running the parade and fun-food booths, and cleaning-up after the afternoon/early evening festivities.

MS Service Learning Days Driving -- Sign-up -- Learn More -- Driver certification sign-up

Volunteers drive MS students and faculty to Portland area non-profit agencies where students perform ½ day service projects. Drivers must complete an OES driving certification class which includes a DMV check. After a volunteer signs up there will be a process that matches drivers to agencies.

Volunteers help with the set-up, serving and clean-up of luncheon.  Volunteers also provide food for the buffet lunch.

Volunteers assist with costumes and make-up.  Volunteers are also needed to bring snacks for dress rehearsal days.

Volunteers assist in critiquing the science projects of 6th graders.

Volunteers help put on this end of year party.  Duties vary depending on venue and activity. 

Upper School

Assist coaches with communications and other organizational aspects of the team.

Volunteers work under the supervision of the Upper School Librarians to carry out a variety of tasks, including cataloging, staffing the circulation desk, shelving books and assisting students.

Volunteers assist with US-specific activities and the school-wide homecoming celebration by helping set-up, running the parade and fun-food booths, and cleaning-up after the afternoon/early evening festivities.

US Teacher Treats -- Sign-up for 11th grade -- Learn More

Provide a treats for US teachers and staff. Each class hosts one day per year. Snacks may be store-bought or home-made. No nuts.

November - Drive US dorm students to and/or from off-campus interviews for their Literary Journalism Projects.  In May drivers take students to and/or from off-campus service projects on Mt Hood Climb Service Day.  Drivers must complete an OES driving certification class which includes a DMV check.

Supervise and assist US student gift wrapping of US AASK Giving Tree.

10th grade parents.  Help set-up, serve, and replenish food at the catered reception following the US graduation ceremony.

Plan, organize and lead a variety of activities for the annual auction.  This is pre-event planning.

Community Diversity Link (CDL) -- Email -- Learn More

Volunteers arrange events and activities to raise the level of diversity awareness among families in our community.

Committee members plan and arrange FOESL events. General volunteers help with FOESL activities throughout the year, including reading celebrations and teas.

Provide leadership and be an ambassador for OES Fund drive as a division chair or grade rep.

Make phone calls to OES parents requesting donations to OES Fund.

Volunteers help with setup, cleanup and checkout of books at book fair events.

Volunteers host dorm students in their homes over school breaks when the dorms are closed.  Adult hosts must have an approved DHS background check.

Help with variety of auction activities pre-event, day of event, and post auction.

FOESL’s GOBS (Great OES Book Swap) -- Sign-up coming in March -- Learn More

Volunteers help with book collection, sorting, setup, cleanup and checkout of books at this bi-annual book swap event.

    Results from background check may require 2 weeks, so please begin the process early. US parents, please contact the US office to begin the DHS background check for your division. MS and LS volunteers can do the background check online here. After completing it, please email and tell her what child you are related to and what division he or she is in.
