Lower School Substitute Teacher

Job Description

 

The Lower School Substitute Teacher works under the direction of the Assistant Heads of Lower School to teach in the absence of classroom teachers or specialists (music, art, Spanish, Chaplain or physical education). 

 

Qualifications:

  • An experienced teacher with a passion for teaching and children. 
  • Able to create a safe and nurturing environment for children in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.  Oregon Episcopal School places a high value on the cultivation of a sense of community, social responsibility, spiritual growth, and appreciation and respect for individual differences.
  • Able to maintain a productive classroom environment utilizing a firm, yet warm, good-humored manner.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Report to work as soon as possible after receiving request for substitute teacher. 
  • Carry out the lessons and regular routines according to the classroom or specialist teacher's plans.
  • Provide written notes on the plans the teacher left or keep a separate record of how the lessons went, what problems occurred, what changes may have made, etc.
  • Perform additional daily duties assigned to the classroom teacher (e.g., escorting children to the lunchroom, lunchroom duty, recess duty, after school walkway duty, etc.).
