As the largest city in Oregon, Portland offers many cultural attractions including professional symphony and ballet, numerous theaters, art galleries, and musical groups ranging from rock and jazz to folk and classical. Professional league sports teams include the Portland Trailblazers basketball team, the Lumberjax lacrosse team and, the semi-pro Winterhawks ice hockey team. Both the Oregon coast and the Cascade mountains are only an hour and a half away.

Dorm students are encouraged to participate in cultural activities each semester. In addition, OES offers Jazz Band, Choir, Chamber Ensemble and three theatrical productions each year. Some students also perform in the Portland Youth Philharmonic Orchestra.
