| By 1882, the school was surrounded by the growing
commercial center of Portland, and the board sold the school property
to the city and made plans to build a new school on a piece of
property bounded by Vista Avenue, St. Clair, Main and Park streets.
The old building was moved to 12th and Main streets where it
served as temporary quarters for the remainder of the decade until
the new school was constructed. By 1890, about 2000 girls had
received instruction at St. Helen’s Hall, with 62 graduating.
Information for this page was condensed from The First Century,
a history of St. Helen's Hall written by Sally Reed Stout.
