All new recipes and stories in this fun class. Join us as we take our inspirations from stories in children's literature to make carrot muffins for Peter Rabbit, Tortillas for Maria and much more! By the end of our session, we will have accumulated and decorated a cookbook of the recipes we prepare in class!
Vicki Garbely has her Oregon Teachers License to teach art to school-aged children. Vicki has been teaching art for over 25 years. Prior to coming to OES, Vicki had been teaching art to students in Romania where she often cooked with her students.

Vicki Garbely has taught this class the past four years at OES- but rest assured, each year students make new projects! Make amazing keepsakes for family and friends! Come and have fun creating seasonal decorations and gifts. Make stuffed pillows, beaded valentine necklaces, a felt Teddy Bear, and other cool spring projects! Build fine motor skills through sewing and drawing- improving fine motor skills, as well as bringing out your creative side.

Learn the basic skills of glass fusing as well as many different techniques to make incredible one of a kind pieces. Fusing projects will include fabulous keepsakes: sun-catchers, pocket vases, and a fused glass plate. Students will have the opportunity to design, cut, and fuse their work with colorful hues of glass. Join us in this class to make gorgeous one of a kind art pieces.
Jenny Belote Wells is a Certified Oregon Elementary Teacher and earned her BA in Special Education from Radford University. For five years, Jenny taught Elementary Education in Virginia and Oregon. Since 2001, Jenny has been teaching children and adults the basic skills for making fused glass art, and mosaics at Grace Institute. She recently opened her own glass teaching studio in the Alberta Arts District, Jennifer Wells Design, and sells her work nationally.
She began teaching fused glass classes for OES last Spring.

Paper towel rolls, old CDs, metal scraps…what are these items doing on the art table? They are becoming pieces of art, that’s what! Join Shannon as she incorporates pieces normally tossed in the recycling bin with traditional art materials to create some spectacular art work! This very hands-on, fun, and creative class should be a delight to any student with an interest in art.
Shannon Hacker has taught a variety of classes at OES for the past 11 years and also directs Summer Discovery. She loves this age group, getting messy, and bringing out the creative side of her students.

Learn how to write and speak Mandarin in this fun, hands on class. Yi will use various methods to instruct students in one of the fastest growing languages in the world! Using games, activities, group work, and assignmentsto learn about the Chinese culture and how to speak, read, and write basic Mandarin Chinese. Beginning students through intermediate are welcome to join this new class. Class fees cover all materials.
Yi Atterson grew up in Taiwan where she received a degree in Foreign Languages and Literature. Yi has 12 years of experience teaching Mandarin to American students in summer camps, as well as after school classes. She actively substitutes for the Beaverton and Riverdale School District.
