Note from Ann Sulzer, Head of School

As we head into a season of celebration and reflection, the energy in our building is increasing with a view towards Winter Break.

We had a wonderful PAL presentation this morning from Jon von Behren, our Director of Facilities. He shared information about how the campus is prepared for emergencies and how families can prepare themselves. Here is a link to his presentation, and you can also find it on the Parent Portal under PCL and PAL Meeting summaries. There are some great resources on the parent section of that offer emergency preparedness resources that you should check out.

We have our Advent Lessons and Carols Service this evening with performances from our 8th grade vocal music and Advanced Strings students, and then we will hear from our 6th and 7th grade vocal music and 8th grade instrumental music students on Friday, December 15 at our traditional St. Nick’s Chapel in the gym. If you have never experienced St. Nick’s, I always say that it is half pep rally, half chapel, and 100% energy. St. Nick’s will begin around 1:30 p.m. that Friday afternoon, and it is a great way to transition into the break.

To add to the excitement, on the morning of December 15, we will take the entire Middle School ice skating. We will remind the students, but please be sure that they dress warmly because it is cold on the ice. We will bus all the students to and from the skating rink and provide the skates and snacks as needed.

Looking into the new year, we have an evening PAL meeting on January 10 from 7:00–8:00 p.m. with Liz Weiler, our Math Department Chair, to hear about the OES math program and how our students experience math in the Middle and Upper School. Parents are also invited on Wednesday, January 17 at 7:00 p.m. to hear from Amy Morin, author of 13 Things Mentally Strong Parents Don’t Do.

If I don’t get a chance to say this to you personally in the coming week, I wish you a wonderful Winter Break with all the relaxation and rejuvenation you need, and I look foward to welcoming you to 2018 when we return in January.
