The Rt. Rev. Michael Hanley

Biography: The Rt. Rev. Michael Hanley was born in 1954 and grew up in Oklahoma and in New York City. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma, a M.Div. from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois, and a D.Min. in Congregational Development from Seabury-Western. Before being elected Bishop of Oregon, Michael served parishes in Oklahoma, Missouri, and Minnesota. He is known as a supportive mentor to people of all ages and stages of life, with a deep spiritual center. In a recent sabbatical he completed the 500-mile walking pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostella, Spain, with his daughter. In his spare time he has been a storyteller, performing for schools, churches, and other civic groups. He is married to Marla Martin Hanley, who prior to their move to Oregon was an associate academic dean at St. Catherine University in the Twin Cities. Michael and Marla are the proud parents of two adult daughters.

Biography: Elizabeth Gewecke brings to the board her extensive experience in business management. Before coming to Oregon, she was a product manager for a number of firms in the Silicon Valley including Yahoo! and Intuit. A graduate of Stanford University, she earned an MBA from Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration. She is a stay-at-home mom and has volunteered at OES with the Community Diversity Link, the OES Fund Leadership Committee, and Teacher Appreciation Planning Committee. She also has been a Kindergarten PAL representative, class auction project coordinator, and room parent. Elizabeth and her husband, Thomas, have three children at OES.

Malcolm McIver

Biography: Malcolm McIver is president of Commerce Properties, a family-owned real estate investment company. He also has worked for Temple, Barker & Sloane Management Consulting in Boston, and for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals in Tokyo. He has served as board chair for The Salvation Army in Portland. A graduate of Lincoln High School, he majored in Economics at Dartmouth College and received an MBA in marketing from UCLA. He and his spouse, Rico, have two children at OES. Malcolm has been an assistant basketball coach for the OES Lower School teams. His hobbies include yoga, waterfowling, rowing, and spending time at the family cabin.

Biography: Laurie Price is Principal of Square Root Project, a consulting company focused on bridging the gap between mission and reality. Prior to this, she was COO for CafeGive, Inc., a cause marketing and business solutions company she co-founded to help companies strengthen their brand through social impact. Laurie also was the director of e-Business Operations at Intel Corp. where she worked for 14 years in roles ranging from finance to supply chain management, business operations, and e-commerce. Laurie co-founded the Oregon Chapter of The Children’s Heart Foundation, and served as a board member and two-term board chair of Mountain Star Family Relief Nursery, and she currently Co-Chairs the Advancement Committee and People Strategy Task Force for the OES Board of Trustees. Laurie is married to Vince, and they have one child at OES.

Biography: Nate Schwalbach is the Vice President of Operations at Northwest Self Storage, a self storage real estate company with assets in Oregon and Washington. Previously, Nate’s real estate career included positions as Managing Director at Capital Pacific, a retail brokerage company located in Lake Oswego, and Executive Vice President at Spensa Development Group, a real estate development and management company. Nate also worked as Vice President in the Seattle and Portland offices of Porter Novelli, an international public relations, public affairs, and advertising agency. He is an alumnus of Breck School in Minnesota and has a bachelor’s degree from Gonzaga University. He enjoys skiing, playing music, and spending time at the coast with his family. Nate and his wife, Mari, have two children at OES.

Biography: Moira Buckley has enjoyed a dynamic career in financial services. She joined Prudential Financial in 1993 and currently serves as Vice President, Administration. In this capacity she oversees operations and strategy for Prudential Advisors, Prudential's face-to-face distribution channel, in 18 western US states. She has a BS in Criminology from Southern Oregon University. Moira has been a board member for Youngset Cooperative Preschool and a trustee for the SIDS Foundation of Oregon. She and her husband, Mike, have three children at OES.

The Rev. Canon Robert Bryant

Rector, St. John the Baptist Church

Biography: Robert H. Bryant became Rector of St. John's in December 2002, after serving parishes in Capitola and Mill Valley, California. He grew up in the Commonwealth of Virginia, earning his BA from the College of William & Mary in 1979. After receiving his M.Div. from Nashatah House Seminary in Wisconsin, Robert was ordained to the priesthood in 1988 at Grace Cathedral, San Francisco. In the Diocese of Oregon, Robert has chaired the Commission on Liturgy & Music, as well as the Standing Committee. In 2011, he was appointed by Bishop Hanley to be Canon Theologian of the Diocese. In addition to his responsibilities at the parish and OES, Fr. Robert reaches out to the larger community by singing with the Portland Gay Men's Chorus, as it seeks to affirm the worth of all people.

Biography: Dan Drinkward is an alumnus of the OES class of 1995. After OES, he attended Santa Clara University and currently works as an operations manager with Hoffman Construction. Dan has remained active as a leader at OES, having served as president of the Alumni Council and as a member of Lower School building oversight and campaign committees. He is married to Kathleen Drinkward and has two young children, the older of whom attends OES.

Biography: Mary Lou Green is a consulting leader in the healthcare practice at Slalom. She previously served as the chief operating officer of CoverOregon, as well as in a number of healthcare process improvement and strategic planning roles, including roles at Kaiser Permanente Northwest and Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Human Development from Cornell University and a Master's degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota. Mary Lou and her husband, Trent, have two children at OES. She has volunteered as third grade PAL representative and was the 2014–15 Lower School PAL Chair. She is a member of the CARES Northwest development committee and the National Charity League. Mary Lou and her family are proud attendees and members at Trinity Cathedral.

Pamela Hummelt

Biography: Pam Hummelt is a current OES parent with a strong background in architecture, project management, and community leadership. She received a BA in Urban Studies from Stanford University and a Master of Architecture from the University of Oregon. She practiced architecture for many years working on buildings in both campus and urban settings: libraries, museums, theaters, and academic facilities. Pam has served on the board of Ainsworth Elementary School and the Racquet Club. She currently sits on the steering committee for Women of Good Samaritan and on the board of the National Charity League. She volunteers at many school events and in the community. Pam and her husband, Fritz, have two children at OES. The family spends time skiing, playing tennis, and cheering for OES sports teams! The Hummelts attend Ascension Episcopal Parish.

Biography: Joe Kaliszewski is a Northwest regional sales manager for Oracle Corporation, where he has worked for 22 years. He grew up in Central Oregon and later graduated from Lakeridge High School. He earned a BS in electrical engineering from MIT and has spent most of his career in technology sales. Joe, his wife Jeanne, and their three children attend St. David of Wales Episcopal Church, where he serves as treasurer on the vestry. He enjoys running, playing guitar, and cooking from the pages of Cook’s Illustrated.

Biography: Adam Kobos is a partner at Troutman Sanders LLP. He graduated from OES in 1991, and then earned a BA from Amherst, an MA from Harvard University, and a JD from Stanford University. Adam was recognized as one of Portland Business Journal’s Top Forty Under 40 honorees for 2013. Adam served on the OES Alumni Council from 2008–2010 and on the OES Mission & Vision Committee in 2011–12. He and his wife, Betty, have two children at OES.

Biography: Brad Lawliss is the director of finance at Project^, a real estate development company in Portland. Prior to Project^, he was the director of sales for NWNGS, LLC, a subsidiary of NW Natural. He previously served as a senior financial analyst for Gerding Edlen, and as an associate director at Bear Stearns. He attended The Lawrenceville School and earned his undergraduate degree from Lehigh University. Brad and his wife Carrie have three children at OES. He serves on the OES Finance and Endowment/Investment Committees and is a trustee on the foundation board of Oregon College of Art & Craft.

Biography: Kate Lieber is an attorney and teaches criminal law and evidence courses at Portland Community College. Previously she worked for 12 years as a deputy district attorney in the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office. She also serves on the State of Oregon’s Psychiatric Security Review Board. She earned a BA in Economics and Psychology from Smith College and was awarded a JD, magna cum laude, from Indiana University School of Law. Kate and her wife, Monique Matheson, have two children at OES. In addition to serving as President of the Board from 2012–16, Kate's volunteer work at OES includes serving on the Interim Head of School Search Committee in 2009, chairing multiple teacher appreciation events, and chairing the Governance Committee. Her hobbies include running, woodworking, and travel.

Biography: Georgina Miltenberger is co-owner of the law firm Berkey|Miltenberger LLC, where her focus is family law litigation, alternative dispute resolution, and special education law. She earned her BA from Hollins University and her JD from Penn State University. Prior to law school, she worked for a federal advisory committee to the Secretary of Energy and taught English to children and adults in rural Japan. Georgina and her husband, Doug, have two children at OES. She has served as a room parent and Lower School VolunteerSpot Manager, on the Auction Committee and Steering Committee for Open Up: The Campaign for OES, and currently serves as Chair of the OES Fund. The Miltenberger family are members of the Ascension Episcopal Parish.

Biography: Chris Riser is a sixth through eighth grade humanities teacher for Portland Public Schools at Woodlawn School. He earned both his BA in History and Ed.M. from Portland State University. He is also a graduate of the Portland Teachers Program at Portland Community College, a program designed to recruit and help culturally competent educators. Chris previously served as the Primary PCL rep. He and his wife, Corie Murphy-Riser, have two children at OES.

Biography: Liam Thornton is the Principal of Trinity 3 Investment, a real estate investment, development, and advisory firm. Prior to Trinity 3 Investment, he was Managing Director of Investment for Langley Investment Properties. Before relocating to Portland, he previously held principal or executive positions at Thinkwell Development, House of Blues Entertainment, Universal Studios, and The Walt Disney Company. He received a BS from the Santa Clara University School of Engineering, and was awarded an MS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) School of Architecture and Planning. Liam is active in Portland-area business and civic organizations including the Urban Land Institute Northwest, Portland State University Center for Real Estate, Portland Streetcar, Inc., Catholic Charities Oregon and Western Rivers Conservancy. In his free time, Liam enjoys skiing, camping, soccer, and the outdoors. He and his wife, Felicia Denault Thornton, have two children, both graduates of OES.

Biography: Heike von der Heyden moved to Portland in 2006 from Munich, Germany, where she worked in private equity and corporate finance, serving as managing partner of the Frankfurt-based private equity firm ECM Equity Capital Management. She earned a business degree (Dipl.Kfm) from Westfälische Wilhelms-University in Münster, Germany, and is a German citizen. Heike and her husband, Eric, have two children at OES.

Biography: Kevin Walkush is a portfolio manager and owner at Jensen Investment Management. Prior to joining Jensen, Kevin was a stock analyst for Morningstar. He has also held various finance and operational roles at Amazon.com and Weyerhaeuser. He earned his BS in Chemical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis and his MBA from the University of Michigan. Kevin and his wife, Jeanine Fukuda, have two children at OES. He has served on the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees since 2013.

Biography: Catherine Willmott is a graduate of St. Anne’s-Belfield School, a K–12 Episcopal day school in Charlottesville, Virginia. She previously lived in New York City, where she had been a senior vice president in investment banking at Lehman Brothers. Catherine received a bachelor's degree from Princeton University and has a master's degree from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. Catherine currently runs Teaching Preschool Partners, a non-profit that operates high-quality, inquiry-based preschool classrooms inside Title 1 public schools. Catherine is a member of the Episcopal Church and a parishioner at Trinity Cathedral. She and her husband, David, have three children at OES.

Mo Copeland

Mo Copeland is Head of School at Oregon Episcopal School in Portland, Oregon. Prior to joining OES in 2011, she was the Upper School Head, then Head of School at Saint George’s in Spokane. She also served as Dean of Faculty at Lakeside School in Seattle. Before becoming an administrator, Mo taught physics and math for nearly 20 years at Lakeside, Moses Brown School, and Putney School.

Mo has been extensively involved in NWAIS, serving currently on the Accreditation Committee, as board chair from 2007 to 2009, and on numerous visiting teams over the last decade. She serves on the Commission on Accreditation for NAIS and the Reed College, High Mountain Institute, and Victory Academy Boards of Trustees. Mo earned her BA in Physics from Reed College. Her two sons, products of independent school education, live in Portland and San Diego. She and her husband, Chris, love the outdoors, spending as much time there as possible, as well as preparing for trips through running, and cycling.
