Service Learning

Service is integral to the mission of OES. We seek to demonstrate the power of individual and community actions to improve our world. Through curricular-based, pre-Kindergarten through 12th Grade projects, student-based initiatives, global service opportunities, and the AASK partnership, OES carries out this commitment. Mount Hood Climb Service Day, which takes place on the second Wednesday in May, is an annual, school-wide day of service for the entire OES community; everyone takes part in this meaningful, focused day of giving back to the Portland community.

Service learning at OES inspires responsibility, develops leadership, and encourages compassion, while broadening and deepening our local and global engagement.

OES defines Service Learning as active participation in thoughtfully organized volunteer experiences with non-profit organizations dedicated to the well-being of people in the local or global community, or the environment. Experiential service learning is supported and furthered by intentional reflection.
