Giving Teams a Boost

At any OES sporting event—girls, boys, home--Chris Hochgesang is likely to be found in the stands.  During Upper School Gathering, he makes spirited pleas for attendance at games, and he has gone to the Middle School to encourage students to come out and cheer for the teams. Nobody is exempt from his boosterism.

“I definitely am inclusive when it comes to sports,” he said. “I want bodies.”
He created a Facebook page to promote the teams. It caught the attention of some students from Catlin Gabel when he posted a video of OES winning a basketball game against Catlin with a buzzer shot. The Catlinites responded by posting a link to a video of a dead aardvark. All in good fun.

When Chris is not watching others perform, he is performing himself.  He has twice won the contest for best rap about an OES prom.  Under his rapper name of C-Hova, he stars in rap videos made by classmate Aaron Gupta and posted on the YouTube page of fellow rapper Marc Leef, aka the Hebrew Hammer.  Their hilarious, tongue-in-cheek P-Town Gangstas video has received more than 4,000 hits.

How he learned about rapping is anyone’s guess, but Chris says he learned about scripting in Art Ward’s playwriting class, and one of the highlights of his OES career was directing a humorous one-act play about a Facebook courtship.

Chris is now studying business and cinematic arts at University of Southern California in preparation for a career in the entertainment industry.
