Principles
In order to fulfill the purpose of OES, we will be guided by these principles:
- WE STRIVE for the full development of each student, drawing from resources within and without the School.
- WE ENDORSE learning as a natural, exciting process involving struggle and discovery, disappointment, and satisfaction. Shared by student and teacher, the joy of learning flourishes in a caring, orderly environment intended to develop self-discipline.
- WE ENCOURAGE the hard work and extra effort needed to lead a student to excellence not otherwise attained.
- WE TEACH traditional academic subjects and basic skills, integrated with the aesthetic, physical, and spiritual.
- WE CHOOSE, retain, and reward skilled and caring professionals for our faculty, and expect them to stimulate, guide, and challenge their students and to grow professionally.
- WE SEEK students with intellectual promise from diverse backgrounds and value energy, enthusiasm, imagination, curiosity, creativity, and a sense of humor.
- WE CULTIVATE initiative, integrity, responsibility, self-confidence, and self-reliance.
- WE FACILITATE contributions to society by undertaking programs of outreach and service to others.
- WE BUILD community, relying on the contributions of students, faculty and staff, families, parents, alumni, trustees, the parish congregation, and the community at large.
- WE EMPHASIZE the value and dignity of individual spiritual needs, understanding and respecting the diverse beliefs represented in the OES community while exposing students to the Anglican tradition.
- WE GUIDE with a love which is kind and tough; which operates without fear; which says “no” as well as “yes”; which listens with the heart, tells the truth firmly but tenderly, and rewards with encouragement.
