The Rt. Rev. Michael Hanley, Bishop of Oregon
Chairman of the Board

Michael was born in 1954 and grew up in Oklahoma and in New York City. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1976 and a M.Div. from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois, in 1981. He also holds a D.Min. in Congregational Development from Seabury-Western (2005). Before being elected Bishop of Oregon, Michael served parishes in Oklahoma, Missouri, and, for nineteen years, Minnesota.He is known as a supportive mentor to people of all ages and stages of life, with a deep spiritual center. In a recent sabbatical he completed the 500-mile walking pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostella, Spain, with his daughter. In his spare time he has been a storyteller, performing for schools, churches, and other civic groups. He is married to Marla Martin Hanley, prior to their move to Oregon, an associate academic dean at St. Catherine University in the Twin Cities. Michael and Marla are the proud parents of two adult daughters.

Mr. Steve Grant, President

Steve Grant and his wife, Pam Grant, have two children at OES. Steve joined TriQuint in July 2008 as Vice President of Worldwide Operations. Prior to joining TriQuint, he spent 27 years at Intel Corp. Prior to joining the OES Board, Steve served on the Board of the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) where he was the secretary and a member of the Executive Committee. During his tenure at OMSI, he was actively involved in a major fundraising effort to upgrade the Technology Hall. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Material Science from the University of Illinois.

Ms. Estelle Kelley ’78, Vice President

Estelle Kelley attended Oregon Episcopal School for many years but graduated, with honors, from the Punahou School in Hawaii. She received her bachelor's degree from Pacific Lutheran University, majoring in English and Scandinavian studies, and she was awarded a law degree and an MBA by Santa Clara University. She also holds an MA in Humanities from Pacifica Graduate Institute and is enrolled in a PhD program in Depth Psychology. She has practiced law and served as an adjunct professor of law at Washington State University, Clark College, and Hawaii Pacific University. Estelle is an accomplished needlepoint instructor and designer, and she is a past or present member of a number of corporate and nonprofit boards. She also is an artist and has traveled extensively.

Mr. Evan Roberts '88, Vice President

Evan Roberts '88 is co-owner of Crowley Wines LLC, working in every facet of the business from the vineyard to marketing. Previously, he worked as assistant to the winemaker at JK Carriere, and he was CEO of a recording studio and an animation studio in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He has been a member of the executive board and finance committee for the Portland Opera, member of the advisory council for the Cornerstone Society of Oregon Public Broadcasting, and co-president of the Multnomah Cooperative Playschool. Evan has a BA in advertising from Marquette University. He and his spouse, Rebecca, have three children at OES. His hobbies are scuba diving, master's swimming, Alfa Romeo classic car events, cooking, and all things wine.

Mr. Kirk Bass, Treasurer

Kirk Bass is the chief financial officer of the Randall Group and a trustee of three trusts. He earned a bachelor's of science in business administration from California State University in 1978 and became a certified public accountant in 1979. He and his wife, Polly, have been married for 34 years and have four children. Kirk enjoys golf, snow skiing and waterskiing.

Ms. Kate Lieber, Secretary

Kate B. Lieber is an attorney and teaches criminal law courses at Portland Community College. She was a deputy district attorney for 12 years in the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office and was appointed by the governor to serve as chair of the Psychiatric Security Review Board. She also has served as president of KJM&N, a restaurant franchising company. She earned a B.A. in economics and psychology from Smith College and was awarded a JD degree, magna cum laude, from Indiana University School of Law. She and her partner, Monique Matheson, have two children at OES. Kate's volunteer work at OES includes serving on the search committee for the interim head of school in 2009 and chairing teacher appreciation events for two years. Her hobbies include running and woodworking.

The Rev. Canon Robert H. Bryant, Parish of St. John the Baptist

Fr. Robert became Rector of St. John's in December, 2002, after serving parishes in Capitola and Mill Valley, California. He grew up in the Commonwealth of Virginia, earning his BA from the College of William & Mary in 1979. After receiving his MDiv from Nashatah House Seminary in Wisconsin, Robert was ordained to the priesthood in 1988 at Grace Cathedral, San Francisco. In the Diocese of Oregon, Robert currently chairs the Commission on Liturgy & Music, and he serves on the Commission on Ministry. In 2011, he was appointed by Bishop Hanley to be Canon Theologian of the Diocese. In addition to his responsibilities at the parish and OES, Fr. Robert reaches out to the larger community by singing with the Portland Gay Men's Chorus, as it seeks to value the worth of all people.

Ms. Ann C. Carter

Ann Carter provides consulting services through ACCtion Strategic Marketing Services, which she founded in 2002 after directing marketing and communications for PacifiCorp for 14 years. Before coming to Portland, Ann worked on Madison Avenue with J. Walter Thompson, BBBO, and Ted Bates and Co. She graduated from Stanford in 1976 with an AB in communications and a minor in architecture. Ann has served on the Boards of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), the Portland Art Museum, the French American International School, and Chamber Music Northwest. She and her husband, Tom, are the parents of Charlie Palmer '09.

Mr. Raymond Cheng

Raymond Cheng was born and raised in Hong Kong. He came to the United States in 1978 to attend high school in Portland and later studied at the University of Oregon, where he graduated with a degree in architecture. Raymond has been practicing architecture in Portland for over 20 years and has worked on a number of commercial, educational, high-tech, housing, and institutional projects all over the U.S. and China. Currently he is a senior project manager at LRS Architects, Inc. for their offices in Portland and Shanghai, China. Raymond currently serves on the Sustainability Committee at OES. His wife, Josie Cheng, is an active volunteer in the school. They have one child at OES.

Ms. Kristin Collins

Kristin Collins is a native Oregonian who has lived in Portland since 1989. After falling in love with history, art, and writing at Willamette University, she earned an MA in Art History at the University of Oregon and, for the last 11 years, has taught every historical period of Western Art, first at the University of Portland and then at Marylhurst University. She "retired" from teaching this year in order to pursue a full-time career in child chauffeuring. Kristin is particularly interested in children, literacy, and social justice and currently serves on the boards of The Library Foundation, The Portland Children's Museum, and The Portland Art Museum. At OES she has served on several committees including, most recently, the Lower School Head Transition Committee and the Board Diversity and Outreach Committee. Kristin has two children at OES.

Ms. Elizabeth Gewecke

Elizabeth Gewecke brings to the board her extensive experience in business management. Before coming to Oregon, she was a product manager for a number of firms in the Silicon Valley including Yahoo! and Intuit. A graduate of Stanford University, she earned a MBA from Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration. She is a stay-at-home mom and has volunteered at OES with the Community Diversity Link, the OES Fund Leadership Committee, and Teacher Appreciation Planning Committee. She also has been a Kindergarten PAL representative, class auction project coordinator, and room parent. Elizabeth and her husband, Thomas, have three children at OES.

Ms. Elizabeth Highet '86

Elizabeth Highet was a cum laude graduate of Oregon Episcopal School. She became a member of the Oregon State Bar and began working full time in her family's business, The Original Pancake House. She is also involved with their company's franchising division and investment corporation. She works in all aspects of the business, including treasurer, counsel, and her favorite position, working in the restaurant itself. Elizabeth has been a member of the OES alumnae/i board and is a member of Trinity Cathedral. She is the parent of two students at OES.

Mr. Mark Hochgesang

Mark Hochgesang grew up in Portland, attending Ainsworth Elementary and Lincoln High School. He received both his BA in Psychology and MBA from the University of Southern California. Mark works in merchandising at Nike, after serving in sales, marketing and product developing positions for The Gap, Easton Sports and Adidas. He also ran an executive search firm focused on the sporting goods industry. Mark teamed up with Kris Van Hatcher to make OES a "Nike School." He has served on the Governance, Finance, Development, Advancement and Head Search Committees. Mark and his wife Barbara moved from the Bay Area to Portland in 1996. Their son is a proud OES "lifer" and 2011 graduate. Mark and his family have been parishioners at St John's Parish since 1999.

Mr. Mark Kemball

Mark Kemball is Director of Alumni Relations for the OHSU Foundation at Oregon Health & Science University, having previously served as OHSU's director of community relations and communications manager in the Office of the Dean, School of Medicine. Mark earned his MBA from Portland State University and received an MA in music from Cambridge University. Mark has volunteered as a driver for the Loaves & Fishes' Meals on Wheels program and as a children's choir accompanist for Oregon Repertory Singers and Valley Presbyterian Church. He also has served as a member or officer in a number of organizations including Mayor Potter's Vision PDX Committee, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, the South West Portland Rotary Club, and the Urban League of Portland. He and his wife, Alice, have one child at OES.

Mr. Steve Lovett

Steve Lovett is a partner at Stoel Rives LLP and a member of the firm's Technology and Intellectual Property Practice Group, which he led for six years. He has practiced law for over 23 years and specializes in intellectual property, unfair competition, and technology related litigation. Steve currently serves on the Disciplinary Board of the Diocese of Oregon and in recent years has served as Senior Warden at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church, President and Trustee of Grace Memorial Foundation, and Trustee of Playwrite Inc., a Portland-based non-profit using the power of performance in art to transform the lives of youth at the edge. A former actor, Steve enjoys the theatre, as well as time with family and friends in Neahkahnie Beach. Steve and his wife Connie Sullivan have a child at OES and another who graduated from OES in 2011.

Mr. Malcolm McIver ‘82

Malcolm McIver '82 is president of Commerce Properties, a family-owned real estate investment company. He also has worked for Temple, Barker & Sloane Management Consulting in Boston and for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals in Tokyo. He has served as board chair for The Salvation Army in Portland. A graduate of Lincoln High School, he majored in marketing at Dartmouth College and received an MBA in marketing from UCLA. He and his spouse, Rico, have two children at OES. Malcolm has been an assistant basketball coach for the OES second- and third-grade girls' teams. His hobbies include yoga, waterfowling, history, and spending time at the family cabin.

Mr. Clent Richardson ’79

Clent Richardson returns to his alma mater and the Portland area as a member of the Board of Trustees. He has lived and worked in four countries, on both coasts, and led global teams based on six continents working for firms including Apple, T-Mobile, Tivo, Nortel, GTE and AOL. His most recent position was based in Prague, Czech Republic, as COO of AVG, and prior to that was CEO and President of Immersion Corporation. Presently, Clent is managing director and principal at Huntington Hill Ventures, based in Oregon. Among the early-stage undertakings in the portfolio are Huntington Hill Vineyards, specializing in pinot noir and pinot gris wine-grapes, as well as boutique estate reserve bottlings. He and his wife Sharon live in Tualatin and have two children attending OES. Clent is chair of the Audit Committee of the Board.

Ms. Leslie Spencer

Leslie Spencer received her BA from Princeton University and a master's from the University of London. She worked as a writer and associate editor at Forbes Magazine from 1987 to 1996. She and her husband, Jim Huffman, have five children, two of whom attend OES. She enjoys Pilates, reading, river rafting, and the piano.

Ms. Patricia Trunzo

Patricia Trunzo has over 15 years of corporate finance and strategic planning experience in the banking industry with Washington Mutual, American Savings Bank, and First Interstate Bank. She is a board member for New Avenues for Youth, delivers meals for Loaves and Fishes, and is a member of the parish of St. John the Baptist. She chairs the OES/St. John's Liaison Committee and is a member of the OES Finance Committee. She holds a BS in business administration and finance from California State University at Long Beach. Patricia and her spouse, Tony, have two children at OES. Her volunteer activities at OES include serving on the Annual Fund Committee and in the classroom. An outdoorswoman, she enjoys skiing, hiking, and horse riding.

Ms. Heike von der Heyden

Heike von der Heyden moved to Portland in 2006 from Munich, Germany, where she worked in private equity and corporate finance, serving as managing partner of the Frankfurt-based private equity firm ECM Equity Capital Management. She earned a business degree (Dipl.Kfm) from Westfälische Wilhelms-University in Münster, Germany, and is a German citizen. She currently works as an independent consultant advising companies on strategic and financial development. At OES, Heike co-chaired the Community Diversity Link (CDL); she is a member of the development committee and the master planning committee. She and her husband, Eric, have two children at OES.

Ms. Catherine Willmott

Catherine Willmott is a graduate of St. Anne's Belfield School, a K-12 Episcopal Day School in Charlottesville, Virginia. She and her husband, David, enrolled their two school-age children at OES in February 2010 after relocating from New York City, where she had been a senior vice president in investment banking at Lehman Brothers. Catherine received a bachelor's degree from Princeton University and has a master's degree from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. She is a member of the Episcopal Church and a parishioner at Trinity Cathedral.

The Rev. L. D. Wood-Hull

The Rev. L. D. Wood-Hull is in ministry with the people of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Portland as their rector. Prior to St. Barnabas, he served parishes and missions in Connecticut, the State of Washington, and Oregon. He is active in leadership in the Diocese of Oregon, chairing the Committee on Constitution and Canons and serving on the Board of the Episcopal Campus Ministry at the University of Oregon. L. D. received an AB from Harvard, an MDiv from Yale Divinity School, a JD from Yale Law School, and an MA in religious studies from Yale. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have two children at OES.
