Making Music With Computers for HS-Adults

Adam Steele
Focus on song-writing skills, some basic music theory and learning how to use computer software to create your own songs. The goal is to produce a compilation CD by the end of the week. Some musical knowledge is helpful, but not required!

Summer Stock-Musical Theater

Wendy Steele & Elizabeth Brown
Do you love to sing and act? Or maybe you are more interested in behind the scenes roles such as costuming or stage managing?  In this 2 week intensive, all students in the course will be cast in a musical that will be learned and ultimately performed at the end of the session. Each day will consist of music rehearsals, choreography, staging, and acting as well as learning back stage roles.
July 16–27 • 9:00–4:00 daily with performance on Friday 7/27

Private Music Lessons

Grade Pre-K–Adult

Our private music lessons emphasize personal achievement and broadening musical understanding. Private lessons provide a venue for students to learn in depth, so that playing in ensembles becomes easier and more rewarding.
Individual music lessons are taught by music specialists recommended by the OES music faculty. Our summer music faculty is selected from the finest performers and teachers in the Portland area.

Lessons will be scheduled beginning June 21 and ending August 20. Private lessons are available during the day at a time that is mutually agreeable to the student and the teacher.

Cancellation Policy
We ask that you give your teacher one week’s notice if you need to change your regular lesson time. In the case of illness or injury, notice must be given at the first reasonable opportunity. Lessons will be rescheduled at a mutually agreeable time with a one-week notification.

    with Dan Presley
    Dan Presley has been performing professionally since 1969. He accepts students in fifth grade and up.
  • Drums and Percussion
    with John Lamb
    John Lamb has been teaching drums and percussion to students for the past five years. John teaches students from third grade to adults.
  • Guitar
    with Allen Mathews
    Allen Matthews has a background in classical guitar technique and specializes in South American music. Allen accepts students from third grade to adults.
  • Piano and Cello
    with Janet Morris
    Janet Morris has taught private piano lessons for more than 20 years. Janet teaches students of all levels of experience, from age 5 to adults.

    with Naomi LaViolette
    Naomi has been active in teaching and performing piano for the past 10 years. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from the University of Puget Sound. Ms. LaViolette accepts students from age 4 to adults.

    with Mike Horsfall
    Mike Horsfall has been a professional musician in the Portland area for more than 25 years, performing in diverse roles such as featured artist, accompanist, composer and arranger, and recording artist. He teaches students from eighth grade to adults.
  • Saxophone
    with David Valdez
    David Valdez was trained at Berklee College of Music and has performed at major jazz festivals all over the world. David accepts students from fourth grade to adults.
  • Violin
    with Neil Hollister
    Neil Hollister has taught in the Portland area since 1998 and has coached both adult and youth orchestras, playing classical, jazz, and country. Neil teaches students aged 6 and up.

    with Vicki Gunn Pich
    Vicki Gunn Pitch earned her Bachelor's degree in Scandinavian Language and Literature, before getting her Master's in Music Performance on viola from the Julliard School. Vicki teaches students aged 8 and up.

    with Angelika Furtwangler
    Angelika earned her Bachelor of Music degree from Munich Musikhochschule and a Master of Music degree from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and a Doctorate degree in Musical Arts from the University of Wisconsin. Ms. Furtwangler teaches students aged 6 and up.
  • Voice
    with Wendy Steele
    Wendy Steele earned a bachelor of music in voice performance at Pacific University and a master of music at Northwestern. Students must be in eighth grade or above to take voice lessons with Wendy.
  • Woodwinds and Brass
    with Lynn Vannier
    Lynn earned her degree in music education from Lewis & Clark College. She has offered band classes and private instruction at OES since 2005. She offers instruction in flute, saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, or oboe. Students should be entering third grade or above to sign up for lessons with Lynn.

Extended Care

    We are no longer offering care from noon-4 p.m.
  • Cost:
    $75 per week (Week 3 is $60); $18 daily
    Hourly for part-time usage is $7.50
  • Lunch is required if staying after noon. It includes supervision (12-1) and a nutritious lunch. Children will be escorted back and forth from camps.
