We believe it is important to create a sense of wonder about
scholarship, books, and reading. Once learned this gift will serve
our students in their lives beyond OES.
The library program at OES prepares students to work confidently
in the rapidly changing world of information science. Research
instruction is integrated into the course work through a wide
variety of assignments which emphasize process rather than product.
Students learn to create a strategy for research and to use the
most appropriate materials, whether print or nonprint. The Portland
metropolitan area offers many resources and students are encouraged
to use them.
OES has three libraries on campus, one for each division. The
three electronic catalogs are available via a web browser from
anywhere on or off campus. Because OES values independent reading,
the libraries regularly purchase a broad selection of fiction
titles.
The resources of the Libraries have been greatly enhanced by
technology. Students may access information via the internet from
anywhere in the school using their network accounts. Our school
subscribes to several online services including an index with
full-text of 700 national magazines and newspapers, literary biographical
databases, and the World Book online. These subscription services
are available both on and off campus with the appropriate passwords. |
