A four-week ESL summer learning program that emphasizes
strong staff/student relationships and experiential learning with
classroom, nature, sports, art and computer activities. Cannon
Beach is the all time favorite field trip.
Fifteen to eighteen Vose students from third to
fifth grades work one on one with an OES Upper School student
twice a week after school at Vose. Tutoring, combined with daycamp,
has helped Vose students gain an average of two grade levels of
reading skills each year.
Eighth graders from OES and fifth graders from Vose
meet every three weeks to make the world a better place by working
together. They plan and carry out service learning projects, work
on writing skills related to their projects, and have a lot of
fun at the same time.
Lego Physics: Two OES students, trained in Lego Physics,
teach a small class with six Vose students. It is the student's
goal to have an ongoing, student-led class
Glass Class: In spring 2002, six fourth graders from each
school met at Vose after school to create fused glass projects
taught by Shelley Stoffer, OES Lower School art instructor.
This project based summer learning program brings former Vose
students back to AASK for three weeks with an emphasis on developing
leadership, interpersonal and academic skills.
SMART: OES parents volunteer to read with Vose students
one hour per week in the Start Making a Reader Today program.
St. Johns Adult ESL Tutoring: Each spring for the
past three years, six members of the Episcopal Parish of St. John
the Baptist have tutored adult ESL learners at Vose.
Shared faculty training: Vose invites OES to shared faculty
inservices so that the schools can share resources.
Holiday giving: For the past two years, Vose has invited
OES faculty and Upper School students to help sponsor families
of particular need at Vose Elementary during the winter holidays.
